Morning tea on painted sill near Ningbo window
by Dan Bright
Cool, pre-dawn light falls through rain-streaked glass onto a weathered painted sill beside a Ningbo window. A simple ceramic teacup rests on the chipped blue paint, its surface reflecting the gray sky outside. Steam rises faintly from the dark liquid, visible only as a subtle distortion in the air. Raindrops rest on the window pane, blurring the distant wet street beyond. The early autumn chill is evident in the dampness on the wood and the muted tones of the room. Small highlights dance across the polished rim of the cup and the wet glass. A folded linen napkin lies beside the cup, its texture soft against the rough paint. The shallow depth of field keeps the background blurred, focusing attention on the quiet stillness of the morning ritual. at the edge is one drop of water rolling slowly down the window, leaving a clear trail through the grime.
