Cool indigo light floods the kitchen table, filtering through rain-streaked glass that blurs the Newcastle skyline outside. A polished copper kettle sits beside a chipped blue enamel mug, their surfaces reflecting the fading sky. Warm lamplight pools in the corners, softening the edges of the metal and enamel. Late autumn rain beads on the window pane, creating vertical streaks against the darkening blue. The copper gleams with a reddish-brown patina, against the matte blue of the mug. One droplet slides down the glass, marking the time as twilight settles over the city.
