Morning Hop Yard Poles Over Baghdad Hay Bales

by Cathy Rose

Wet, dark soil contrasts with the pale, rectangular stacks of dried hay bales arranged in neat rows. Tall wooden poles rise vertically from the ground, their surfaces glistening with fresh moisture from recent rain. Green vines cling tightly to the trellises, stretching upward into a cloudless, pale blue sky. Deep shadows fall across the left side of the field, obscuring the base of the poles, while a sharp rim of golden light outlines the right edges of the hay bales and the tops of the vines. The ground appears heavy and saturated, reflecting the humid air of the early morning. One metal wire runs horizontally between two poles, catching the light. The perspective looks directly down, flattening the depth of the field into a geometric pattern of vertical lines and stacked textures.
