Monsoon Bonsai Forest on Stone Slab in Burundi

by Ida Pate

Pale morning light spills across a weathered stone slab holding a miniature forest of bonsai trees. Green leaves shiver and shift as gusts of wind from the monsoon season push them sideways. The stone surface shows deep gray cracks and patches of damp moss clinging to the edges. Thin trunks lean slightly, their bark rough and textured against the smooth rock. Water droplets gather on the undersides of foliage, heavy with recent rain. The scene shows the resilience of these small plants as they stand rooted in the shifting air. One leaf trembles at the tip of the lowest branch before settling back against the gray stone.
