Microscope Lamp Edge on Plankton Slide Santa Marta
by Chris Ryan
Pale morning light falls through high windows, washing the microscopy bench in a soft, diffuse glow that bounces off the room's pale walls. A microscope lamp stands in sharp silhouette, its metal edge tracing the perimeter of a translucent plankton slide resting on the stage. The slide reveals faint, suspended biological structures within its glass boundaries, catching the first hints of dawn. Polished brass fittings on the microscope reflect tiny, scattered highlights that dance across the dark wood surface. Converging lines from the bench edges and the microscope arm guide the gaze toward the vanishing point at the back of the room. The turn of seasons is visible in the cool, crisp quality of the air suggested by the stillness and the specific angle of the low, indirect light falling across the scientific instruments.
