Cool, pre-dawn blue light floods a stainless steel work surface inside a Beijing clean room. Glass flasks filled with amber and clear liquids stand in rigid rows beside handwritten notes on pale paper. Plastic pipettes rest in organized holders, their tips pointing toward a vanishing point where the bench meets a white wall. Polished metal surfaces catch tiny, sharp highlights from the window, showing the precision of the arrangement. The peak autumn chill is invisible but felt in the stark, uncluttered geometry of the equipment. One reflection of a window frame stretches across the wet edge of a beaker.
