Flat noon light floods the tight close-up, illuminating a vendor in a white shirt husking bright yellow corn ears. The hands work quickly over a surface dusted with red chili powder and dark cumin seeds. Stacks of dried herbs and glass jars filled with colorful spices line the wooden table behind the corn. Fine red dust hangs in the air, settling on the vendor's sleeves and the rough husks. The scene blends the vibrant produce of a Mexican tianguis with the dense, aromatic stalls of a Tianjin spice market. Shadows fall sharply beneath the tarps overhead, creating a grid of light and dark across the scattered seeds. One red pepper rests near the vendor's elbow.
