Serving Elote in Oaxaca

The blue hour settles over a narrow Oaxacan street where a street vendor’s cart glows with the warm, yellow spill of a bare bulb. A customer in a denim jacket leans against the metal counter, holding a paper cone of elote dusted with chili powder and lime. On the counter, a dented aluminum muffin tin sits beside a stack of white corn tortillas, its surface reflecting the vendor’s busy hands. Behind them, the dark silhouette of a colonial church tower rises against the indigo sky, while wet cobblestones mirror the ambient city lights. The quiet rhythm of evening commerce, grounded by the texture of steam rising from a nearby pot and the casual posture of the diner.
