Melting Snowflake on Salt Pan Rim

by Connor Trujillo

Warm interior shadows pool across a rough salt crust where a single snowflake crystal rests against human skin. The hexagonal structure dissolves into a microscopic water droplet that rests on the ridges of the fingerprint. Golden sunset light falls through a high window, casting long, amber reflections on the adjacent salt grains and the smooth curve of the hand. The contrast between the cooling ice and the heated palm creates a visible sheen of moisture spreading outward. Dark negative space frames the fragile interaction, showing the texture of the salt crystals and the transparency of the melting water. A tiny bead of liquid hangs at the edge of the fingerprint ridge.
