Map Seller at Leh Flea Market in Spring Light
by Kim Forbes
Bright late-afternoon sun illuminates a crowded textile trader's stall in Leh, where a vendor displays stacks of old maps and postcards on a wooden table. The early spring air holds a fine mist, leaving a sheen on the paper surfaces and the colorful woolen textiles draped nearby. People cluster tightly around the narrow aisle, their heavy winter coats and scarves visible in the warm, dense gathering. Raindrops bead on the dark wood of the stall frame and glisten on the wet stone ground. The vendor gestures toward a specific vintage map while a customer leans in to inspect the faded ink. Overhead, a simple tarp provides partial shelter, its fabric fluttering slightly in the damp breeze. The scene is filled with the texture of aged paper, rough wool, and wet stone under the clear, high-altitude light. One raindrop slides down the edge of a postcard frame.
