A narrow alley in Bologna glistens under the diffuse, cool light of early morning after a rain shower, the wet cobblestones reflecting the pale sky and the warm ochre of surrounding stucco walls. An elderly man in a dark wool coat steps carefully over a puddle, his leather shoes splashing slightly against the uneven stone, while steam rises from a nearby café vent, softening the air.
