Soft afternoon light falls through sheer curtains, illuminating a worn acrylic folder rail resting on a polished wooden dresser in Malanje. Inside the rail, several handled documents sit slightly askew, their edges catching faint glints from the humid monsoon air. The cabinet paint beneath shows signs of age, with scuffs softening the frame's edges and revealing layers of previous use. Dust motes hang motionless in the shafts of light, while the dull texture of the acrylic contrasts with the smooth, reflective surface of the wood. A small scratch on the folder's spine marks the corner where a thumb has repeatedly pressed against the plastic.
