Deep tungsten glow spills through a high window, illuminating the weathered skin and intricate red, blue, and yellow beadwork of a Maasai elder seated in Nairobi. The light catches the glossy sheen of the beads and casts soft shadows across deep wrinkles. Ground fog pools thickly around the subject's feet and the lower floor, obscuring the ground details in a milky haze. The dry season is visible in the dust settling on the wooden floorboards and the sparse, brittle grass poking through gaps in the building's foundation. Negative space surrounds the figure, showing the quiet stillness of the night. The elder's gaze remains fixed forward, framed by the warm, artificial glow against the cool, dark void outside.
