Late afternoon sunlight pours through high skylights, illuminating dust motes dancing in the heat haze above a wooden workbench. A luthier stands at the frame's edge, his posture rigid with discipline as he tends to an open instrument case. Worn leather patches on the case lid contrast with the frayed edges of a hanging cloth, their textures highlighted by the broad, gentle light. The air shimmers with visible heat distortion around the subject's hands. Rough plaster walls show signs of age, while the specific grain of the wood inside the case catches the glow. A deep shadow falls across the lower corner of the open case, at the base of the figure in the warm, dusty room.
