Leather Slippers in Beirut

A pair of worn leather slippers rests on the cool, rough stone ledge of a Beirut balcony as the summer evening light fades to a deep violet hue. The shoes sit near a cluster of vibrant red potted geraniums whose green leaves catch the last warm rays of the sun. Behind the plants, a sheer white curtain lifts slightly in the open window, revealing the dark interior of the apartment. Condensation beads glisten on the skin of a nearby lemon resting on the stone surface beside the footwear.
