Leather Oven Mitts in Lima

A pair of worn leather oven mitts rests on a rain-slicked wooden windowsill inside a Lima kitchen as dusk settles outside. Condensation beads on the glass pane, blurring the gray streetlights visible through the wet surface beyond. The leather is scuffed and darkened by years of handling hot pans, against the pale, peeling paint of the frame. One droplet of water traces a slow path down the mitt's cuff, merging with the condensation on the wood.
