Lavender Wheat Border Skylight Tainan Blue Hour

by Kathryn Murphy

Directly overhead, a rectangular patch of cultivated land fills the frame, divided by a sharp diagonal line where purple lavender meets golden wheat. The plants appear flattened and still, resting beneath the warm, yellow glow of suspended string lights that trace the edges of the skylight opening. Deep blue shadows pool in the corners of the surrounding concrete passageway, against the illuminated crops. The dry season texture is evident in the brittle, upright stalks of the wheat and the dense, low profile of the lavender heads. Along the rough stone walls, faint shadows stretch from the light fixtures, showing the geometric precision of the agricultural display against the dark, quiet interior of the Tainan structure. The boundary between the two crops remains a distinct, unblurred seam.
