Laundry Drying in Marseille
by Wilma Bernal
Winter noon light strikes the white-washed limestone facade of a narrow Marseille street, illuminating a cluster of laundry hanging from a rusted iron railing. A pair of hands, blurred by motion, secures a wooden laundry pin to a damp white sheet, while the background reveals the deep shadow of a doorway framed by weathered stucco. Terracotta flower pots line the windowsill above, their earthy red tones contrasting sharply with the bright, cold sunlight hitting the fabric. A brown dog sits patiently on the wet pavement below, its fur catching the glare of the sun as it waits for its owner to finish the chore.
