Late Afternoon Wine Glass Light on Linen in on a ceramic plate by a window in Luanda

Late Afternoon Wine Glass Light on Linen

by Jimmie Dunn

Pale late-afternoon skylight floods the room, bouncing off smooth pale walls to illuminate a ceramic plate holding a clear wine glass. The glass stem fractures the broad daylight into a spectrum of soft prismatic colors that spill across the textured white linen beneath. Sharp geometric shadows from the glass rim cut through the warm glow, while the rain outside softens the edges of the light pool. Tiny water droplets rest on the rim of the plate, catching the ambient brightness. The fabric folds create deep crevices where the light fades into cool gray, against the bright, saturated streaks of refracted color dancing on the surface. A final drop of condensation rests on the linen thread near the shadow's edge.
