Lanyard Tray Shadows Defy Noon Light

A black plastic tray holding event badge lanyards rests on the weathered wooden railing of a pier in Irapuato. The wet season leaves the wood glistening with moisture under the flat glare of noon. North-window sidelight sculpts the glossy surface of the plastic, creating sharp, mirror-like highlights on the curved edges. The lanyards hang in tight loops, their colors muted against the gray wood. An impossible visual shift occurs as the shadows cast by the tray and the hanging badges point directly toward the light source rather than away. This reversal defies the physics of the bright overhead sun. The reflection of the sky on the wet railing mirrors the dark, heavy plastic of the tray. one drop of water rests on the corner of the tray, catching the inverted shadow.
