Kurdish Shepherd Crook Mountain Path Ekibastuz
by Paula Rangel
Copper-toned light washes over a rugged mountain path near Ekibastuz where a Kurdish shepherd stands amidst steady rain. The man wears a heavy, dark wool coat and a traditional head covering, gripping a curved wooden crook that gleams wetly under the raindrops. Autumn foliage in shades of burnt orange and russet rests on the sparse shrubs lining the trail. Rain streaks blur the distant rocky slopes, creating a soft, hazy backdrop against the sharp, dark silhouette of the shepherd. The ground is a churned mix of wet mud and fallen leaves, reflecting the warm, low-angle sky. Water beads on the shepherd's sleeve and the rough bark of the crook, showing the texture of the wet wool and wood. One raindrop hangs from the tip of the wooden staff, poised just above the muddy earth.
