Kaleidoscope Eye View Omdurman Skylight
by Ana Anderson
Honey-colored light floods a narrow passageway near Omdurman, illuminating the rough plaster walls and casting deep, warm shadows against the dry season dust. A hand holds a kaleidoscope directly against an eye, framing a swirling vortex of geometric shapes in red, blue, and gold. The internal mirrors create a perfect symmetrical reflection that duplicates the spinning colors into a rhythmic, infinite pattern. The glass tube catches the low sun, creating bright specular highlights that contrast with the matte texture of the surrounding stone. The composition balances the organic curve of the face with the rigid, repeating lines of the optical illusion. A faint reflection of the window frame appears on the outer rim of the device, at the base of the abstract vision in the physical space.
