Jade-green Ceramic Bowl in Seoul
by Gloria Choi
One jade-green ceramic bowl rests on a weathered wooden counter in a narrow Seoul kitchen, its glossy surface reflecting the flat noon light from a high window. The glaze is thick and uneven, pooling in the crevices to create deep shadows that contrast with the bright highlights on the rim. Beside the bowl, a cracked paper fan lies face down, its faded red characters barely visible against the white rice paper background. A small nickel latch on a nearby cabinet catches a sharp glint of sunlight, anchoring the still life with a touch of metallic precision.
