Indigenous Weavers with Backstrap Looms in Bielsko-Biała Temple Courtyard
Faint grey mist hangs low over the stone pavers of a temple courtyard in Bielsko-Biała as three figures sit in a tight circle. They operate traditional backstrap looms, the wooden beams and tensioned threads forming a complex web of earthy browns, deep reds, and faded indigos. Early winter light falls through bare branches overhead, casting soft, diffuse shadows that stretch across the wet ground. A light drizzle beads on the darkened wood of the looms and the woven textiles draped over their laps. The frame is defined by the archway of the temple entrance, which surrounds the group in a natural border. Thick woolen scarves cover their shoulders against the chill, and the rhythmic arrangement of their hands moves the heddles with focused precision. at the edge is one drop of water sliding down the polished edge of a wooden beater.
