Heavy Fig Tree in Japanese Terraced Garden
by Edgar Strong
Soft, diffused light from an overcast sky illuminates a fig tree laden with plump, dark purple fruit hanging from gnarled branches. The tree stands amidst stepped terraced garden plots, where stone retaining walls create distinct levels of greenery. Early autumn leaves show subtle yellowing edges, against the deep violet of the ripe figs. Wind whips through the foliage, bending slender stems and blurring the background layers into a creamy wash of greens and grays. The shallow depth of field isolates the central cluster of fruit, revealing the rough, speckled texture of the skin against the smooth, wet stone of the terraces. Shadows remain soft and gray, lacking harsh definition, while leaves blur with visible motion. A drop of water rests on the tip of a lower leaf, reflecting the pale sky above.
