A wet grey dog stands on a narrow wooden deck in Hobart, its fur darkened by the recent rain that has just ceased. Morning light falls through the overcast sky, reflecting softly off the slick planks beneath the animal's paws. Behind the dog, a weathered garden gate made of rusted metal bars frames the damp greenery of a suburban backyard. Water droplets rest on the rusted hinges and the dog's matted tail, catching the faint early light.
