Graphite Cores Glued in Cedar Halves at Factory

Under the flat glare of noon, a pencil factory operates beside a massive blast furnace near Makassar. Wet concrete floors reflect the soft light after rain, creating sharp, distorted mirrors of the machinery. Cedar halves split lengthwise sit on a moving conveyor, their pale wood grain against the dark graphite cores being pressed into the grooves by mechanical arms. The scene tilts sharply, showing the mechanical severity of the assembly line against the industrial backdrop. Rust streaks run down the furnace walls, while the air remains still and clear. one drop of glue glistens on the edge of a cedar half, catching the light before the next piece slides into place.
