Giant Wooden Sun Pillar at Arctic Sunset
by Carol Oliver
Warm golden light floods a minimalist landscape near Stockholm, where a colossal wooden pillar rises from the snow to meet the low sun. The structure, scaled to impossible architectural proportions, dominates the frame with its textured grain and weathered edges. Snow blankets the ground in soft, undisturbed drifts, against the sharp vertical lines of the timber. The sky remains perfectly clear, offering an unbroken backdrop of pale blue fading into orange. Shadows stretch long and thin across the white surface, showing the sheer scale of the object. At the base, a small human figure stands still, their dark silhouette providing immediate context for the towering height of the wood. at the edge is the way the light catches the rough bark edge, glowing like molten gold against the cold snow.
