Giant Silk Moth on Moroccan Screen Door in in Morocco

Giant Silk Moth on Moroccan Screen Door

by Valerie Powell

Harsh coastal sunlight strikes a weathered wooden screen door frame in early summer Morocco. A massive giant silk moth rests on the mesh, its fuzzy brown wings spread wide against the grid. Strong wind whips the thin metal screen, creating a blur of motion around the insect's still body. The light is harsh, casting deep shadows between the wood slats and highlighting the fine texture of the moth's scales. Particles drift in the glare, but the moth remains anchored. Its legs grip the taut fabric, while the background dissolves into a bright, overexposed wash of the Moroccan sky. One shadow of the wing edge falls sharply across the wood grain.
