Geometric Rose Window Shadows on Stone Floor in inside a vaulted atrium in Santa Maria la Ribera, Mexico City

Geometric Rose Window Shadows on Stone Floor

by Leonardo Moreno

Late morning light enters through a north-facing window, projecting the intricate tracery of a church rose window onto a rough-hewn stone floor. The shadow creates a rhythmic pattern of dark spokes radiating from a central point, against the pale, weathered limestone beneath. Condensation beads along the nearby glass pane, distorting the light slightly before it strikes the ground. The vaulted atrium walls rise steeply in the background, their aged plaster catching the ambient glow. Dust motes hover in the beam, but the focus remains on the sharp, geometric edges of the shadow play. The stone surface shows deep grooves and uneven texture where the light meets the dark. A faint reflection of the window frame appears on a damp patch of the floor near the edge.
