Garden Bench in Melbourne

Under the bruised purple light of Melbourne’s blue hour, a weathered green garden bench sits against the rough brickwork of a laneway side wall, its slats catching the last ambient glow. Leaf shadows stretch long and sharp across the adjacent tiled floor, cast by a nearby fig tree whose branches dip low over the pavement. A lone table fan rests precariously on the bench seat, its wire grille reflecting the dim streetlamp above, while a rusted drawer pull from a nearby shuttered shop window glints faintly in the distance.
