Funicular Twin Cars Meet on Steep Durban Hillside

Cool gray light spills across a steep, moss-covered hillside near Durban as two funicular cars cross paths. The metal bodies gleam faintly in the soft, overcast morning, their windows reflecting the pale sky. Winter winds whip through the sparse, dormant vegetation clinging to the slope, bending the dry stalks sideways. One car ascends while the other descends, their tracks converging at a narrow station platform. Steam or mist hangs low in the air, softening the edges of the surrounding trees. The rails glisten with moisture, cutting a sharp diagonal line through the muted greens and browns of the dormant landscape. One rivet on the lower car catches the diffuse light, anchoring the massive steel forms against the rising dawn.
