Fisherman at Dusk Light

A wet pavement in Hobart’s Salamanca Place reflects the amber glow of streetlamps as dusk settles, with rain blurring the background of colonial sandstone buildings. In the foreground, a fisherman’s hands, rough and gloved in neoprene, rest on a plastic crate containing a few silver whiting, their scales shimmering with moisture. Beside the crate, a red measuring tape lies coiled on the wet concrete, its yellow markings stark against the grey, while a nearby shop window displays a porcelain jar through the rain-streaked glass. The quiet, practical rhythm of the evening catch, with the damp air softening the edges of the urban landscape.
