Rain-streaked Window in Hobart

by Thiago Ray

A wet pavement in Hobart’s Salamanca Place reflects the sodium glow of a closing bakery window during blue hour. Through the rain-streaked glass, a baker’s hand reaches for a ceramic carafe, its white glaze against the dark, flour-dusted counter. Outside, a red delivery scooter is parked at an angle, its front caster wheel turned sharply against the curb. The street is empty of pedestrians, save for a single coat hook on the bakery’s exterior wall holding a damp yellow raincoat. The quiet transition from service to closure, with the carafe’s reflection merging with the scooter’s chrome details in the puddle.
