Fern Fronds in Toronto

by Jeffrey McCarthy

Rain-slicked concrete pavement in the Distillery District reflects the soft, grey glow of early morning light. A cluster of dark, smooth river stones sits embedded in a patch of wet, dark soil near a brick foundation. Water droplets rest on the edges of a single, vibrant green fern frond that emerges from the muddy ground. The cool, damp air enhances the contrast between the organic greenery and the industrial urban texture.
