Bright midmorning light falls through sheer curtains, illuminating a green fern frond uncoiling in a tight fractal spiral. The shoot rests on a rough stone surface inside the restored train terminal near Changchun. Muted gray tones of the high arched ceiling surround the plant, while lamplight settles into the deep corners of the vast hall. Shadows stretch long across the polished floor, defining the depth of the space. Large expanses of negative space frame the subject, showing the stillness of the dead of winter. A faint reflection of the frond appears on the metal railing beside it, mirroring the delicate texture against the cool daylight.
