Fern Crook on Kerala Cliff After Rain in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Kerala

Fern Crook on Kerala Cliff After Rain

by Craig Bishop

A cluster of Birds Nest Fern fronds curls tightly within a natural hollow carved into a weathered salt-sprayed cliff face. The rock surface displays a rough, pitted texture with patches of white mineral crust and faint green algae stains. Flat noon light floods the scene, casting short, sharp shadows that define the deep crevice holding the plant. The fern leaves are a vibrant, wet green, their smooth surfaces reflecting the soft, diffused glow from the recent rain. Beyond the cliff edge, a layer of low-hanging haze blurs the distant horizon, separating the sharp foreground from the indistinct sky. One droplet of water rests on the tip of the lowest frond, suspended against the gray stone.
