Under the flat, diffuse light of an overcast midday, a narrow alleyway in Nairobi’s Westlands district reveals a lived-in domestic scene. A rusted metal doorframe stands slightly ajar, leading into a dimly lit interior where a simple table fan rests on a wooden stool, its blades still. Outside, on a concrete step, a blue and white porcelain plate sits next to a plastic dish rack holding a few wet glasses, evidence of recent washing. A vine climbs the rough plaster wall beside the door, its green leaves against the grey concrete.
