Domestic Clutter in Prague
by Yvonne Hall
Through the rain-streaked glass of a ground-floor apartment on Vinohrady street, the warm glow of a bedside lamp illuminates a cluttered wooden desk where a porcelain teacup with visible hairline crazing sits next to a folded wool blanket. Outside, the wet pavement reflects the harsh sodium-orange of streetlamps and the cool blue of a passing tram’s passing lights, creating a sharp contrast against the dark, leaf-shadowed tiled floor inside. A small window fan hums quietly in the corner, its blades blurred by motion, while a mug tree holds three chipped ceramic cups. A quiet, lived-in moment of domestic stillness against the indifferent, moving city night, with the rain distorting the view of the cobblestones below.
