Bottles in Osaka at Dawn Light

by Owen Ponce

A narrow alleyway in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi district wakes under a heavy, grey dawn mist that softens the neon glow of a nearby pachinko parlor. The wet asphalt reflects the cool blue light, slick and shimmering. Leaning against a peeling concrete wall, a pair of bright yellow raincoats hangs on a makeshift rack, their plastic surface beaded with condensation. Next to them, a stack of clear glass bottles sits in a wooden crate, waiting for the morning delivery. A small, potted fern with drooping fronds rests on a low stone ledge, its leaves dark and wet.
