Dawn Reflections Over Almaty Mountain Lake
by Charles Le
Midsummer dawn illuminates a mirror-still lake near Almaty, where the water surface perfectly duplicates the jagged mountain ridges rising above. Low sun strikes the horizon haze, casting a soft orange glow that bleeds into the deep blue of the sky. Dramatic cumulus clouds stack heavily overhead, their undersides shadowed while their tops catch the first direct light. The water remains so motionless that the mountain peaks appear to grow upward from the lake floor, creating a seamless vertical symmetry. Rugged rock faces on the distant slopes show patches of lingering snow against the green alpine meadows. A sharp line of shadow from a cloud falls across the lower right corner of the water, breaking the perfect reflection with a dark, cool patch that contrasts against the warm horizon light. The texture of the water is smooth glass, hiding the depth beneath the surface.
