Dawn Light on Baker

Pale gray mist rests on the wet cobblestones of a quiet Merida street as a baker in a flour-dusted apron pushes a heavy wooden cart toward the morning light. The cart’s wicker basket overflows with warm pan dulce, steam rising in thin ribbons that dissolve into the cool air. Beside the cart, a stack of colorful plastic cups sits near a folded umbrella, waiting for customers who have not yet arrived. The scene is lit by the diffuse, shadowless glow of dawn, reflecting off the damp stone and the glossy glaze of the pastries. A stray dog rests near the cart’s wheel, watching the baker adjust the load.
