Dawn Hot Air Balloons Over Baia Mare Waterfront
by Evelyn Byrd
Mist rests on the water's edge near Baia Mare as the first light of early winter breaks the horizon. Three hot air balloons, painted in deep crimson, mustard yellow, and forest green, stand tethered on the damp grassy bank. Their fabric surfaces look heavy and saturated from the humid air following recent rain. The sky transitions from a pale, washed-out blue to soft orange near the waterline, casting a diffuse glow that eliminates sharp shadows. Bare trees line the distant shore, their branches silhouetted against the brightening mist. The water remains glassy and still, reflecting the muted colors of the balloons and the gray sky. In the foreground, puddles mirror the inflated envelopes, while the grass blades glisten with a thin layer of moisture. The vast expanse of the waterfront emphasizes the quiet solitude of the pre-dawn gathering.
