Cold silver light floods the wet pavement where a dark bicycle leans against the corner of a brick bakery near Kyiv. Early spring rain coats every surface, turning the red brick a deep, saturated crimson and reflecting the pale gray sky. Water streams down the glass display windows, blurring the warm glow of interior lights that spill onto the sidewalk. The bicycle frame gleams with a slick sheen, its black tires pressing into puddles that mirror the overcast heavens. Steam rises faintly from a nearby vent, merging with the misty air. one drop of water rests on the edge of a metal handlebar, poised to fall.
