Dark Virga Streaks Over Ujjain at Twilight

by Brendan Crawford

Cool blue twilight washes the sky above Ujjain as rain clouds release dark, vertical streaks of virga that dissolve before touching the ground. The city below begins to glow with warm streetlights and building windows, creating a soft counterpoint to the cooling sky. Fine mist hangs in the air, catching the ambient light and softening the edges of the distant skyline. The heavy clouds dominate the upper frame, their undersides painted in shades of slate and charcoal. Silhouetted against the fading light, the rain streaks appear as jagged brushstrokes of ink. In the foreground, the wet pavement reflects the scattered glow of the city, while the mist rests on the lower atmosphere, blurring the boundary between the earth and the storm.
