Under the flat, shadowless glare of Toronto noon, a cyclist pauses beside a brick laneway in the Junction, leaning a black bicycle against a chain-link fence. The bike’s front basket overflows with green houseplants, their leaves catching the diffuse light, while a blue embroidered cushion rests precariously on the handlebars. Beside the rider, a small folding table holds a steaming saucepan, its white vapor rising in soft, indistinct columns against the grey sky. A cutlery set lies scattered on the table’s surface, next to a measuring tape coiled loosely.
