Cyclist in Busan at Golden Hour
by Seth Hull
A narrow alleyway in Busan’s Jagalchi district glows with the heavy amber light of late afternoon, illuminating a makeshift drying rack strung between weathered concrete pillars. Several layers of red and orange dried chili peppers hang vertically, their papery skins catching the low sun and casting long, sharp shadows against the damp, moss-stained pavement below. A cyclist in a high-visibility vest pauses briefly on the cobblestone path, leaning against a rusted bicycle frame while adjusting a helmet strap, seemingly waiting for a vendor to finish securing a stack of woven baskets nearby. The baskets, made of stiff reed fibers, are piled haphazardly, their textured surfaces reflecting the warm, directional light that spills from a nearby seafood market entrance.
