Vendor Cart in Busan
by Lori Vaughan
The late afternoon sun slants across a narrow alley in Haeundae, illuminating a vendor’s cart where a blue and white porcelain bowl rests beside a stack of flat biscuit tins. Ivy vines climb the rough stucco wall behind the cart, their green leaves catching the warm light while dried drips of sauce stain the white enamel surface below. The composition layers the textured foreground of the food containers against the shadowed depth of the residential street, where a pair of hands adjusts the charcoal stick used for grilling. A sudden gust lifts the corner of a plastic menu sheet, revealing the glint of the porcelain bowl as a passing bicycle wheel blurs through the background.
