Courtyard Entrance in Havana
by Heidi Ahmed
Wet cobblestones in a Havana courtyard reflect the bruised purple sky of early morning, slick with recent rain. A weathered wooden door, painted in peeling colonial turquoise, stands slightly ajar, revealing a dim interior where a ceramic cup rests on a chipped saucer, faint steam rising in the cool air. Outside, a rusted iron grille frames a potted hibiscus, its red petals heavy with droplets. A faded Cuban newspaper lies crumpled on the stone step, its ink bleeding slightly into the damp surface. The light is soft and diffuse, casting long, muted shadows across the textured masonry, highlighting the contrast between the vibrant, rain-slicked paint and the dull, gray stone.
