Construction Hoist Landing at Sunset in North Macedonia
by Nicole Clark
Warm golden hour light spills across a metal construction hoist landing, illuminating dust motes suspended in a thin layer of late spring fog. The steel grating floor shows deep scratches and patches of rust, bearing the weight of heavy work boots and scattered debris. A pair of thick, grey safety gloves rests near the edge, their fabric worn and frayed. Beside them, a black two-way radio sits upright, its antenna casting a sharp, elongated shadow against the corrugated metal wall. The framed building shell rises in the background, its exposed concrete columns and rebar tips silhouetted against the fading sky. Leading lines formed by the hoist's vertical rails and the building's structural grid draw the eye upward toward the hazy horizon. at the edge is one drop of condensation clinging to the cold steel railing, catching the last light of the day.
